Ancient Corinth was in control of the neuralgic position of the corinthian isthmus, as all the ship that wanted to cross from the Ionian to the Aegean bay had to go through there. It was one of the most important commercial junctions of the ancient world. untill it was threatened by the city of Athens. Corinth was considered as the richest city- state of the ancient world.
