Epidaurus
Epidaurus is the historic city of Argolida, placed on the eastern side of the county. Built on the foot of mountains Arachneo, Korifeo and Tithio, this was the place where acording to mythology Asclepius was born and whose worship began there for the first time during the 6th century B.C. It’s strategic position but mainly its ”Asclepion”, helped so that the city gained phenomenal growth. Its residents were occupied with shipping and navigation. The oldest human settlement discovered traces back from the prehistoric age. It is 12 km. from the old town of Epidaurus. The city is part of the homonymous municipality of Epidaurus and became worldwide famous thanks to its ancient marble theatre, known for its excellent acoustics, where all the famous tragedies of ancient Greece were played.
